GS1 is a non-profit international organization dedicated to establishing, improving and promoting a globally unified article numbering and identification system as well as common business standards. It was established in 1973 and headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. Its mission is to coordinate and promote the application of the globally unified article numbering and identification system and commodity barcode, create trusted data of products, ensure the efficient and secure circulation of commodity data, and guarantee full consistency among Member Organizations（MOs） in the adoption of code identification and symbol carrier rules.
