The 43rd meeting of Working Group 1 (WG1) of the International Organization for Standardization’s Technical Committee on Medical Laboratories and In Vitro Diagnostic Systems (ISO/TC212) was held in Vancouver, Canada, from April 29 to May 1, 2026. The session brought together more than 30 delegates from countries including China, the United States, Japan, Sweden, and South Africa.
A member of China’s National Technical Committee on Medical Laboratory and In Vitro Diagnostic Systems (SAC/TC136) and representative of the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS), attended the meeting on behalf of China.
Discussions focused on advancing key standard-setting projects in medical laboratory safety, method validation and confirmation, and the application of emerging technologies. Participants systematically reviewed progress in the development and revision of international standards in the medical laboratory field. The meeting also featured an on-site training session on the ISO Online Standards Development (OSD) platform, heard reports from stakeholder organizations, and adopted a series of resolutions to lay the groundwork for future work.
Chinese experts actively contributed to the revision of ISO 15189 Medical laboratories — Requirements for quality and competence, ISO 15190 Medical laboratories — Requirements for safety, and the development of ISO/TS 21385 Guidance for the implementation of emerging technologies in medical laboratories. Through these efforts, China continues to provide its professional expertise in the fields of medical laboratory quality, safety, and emerging technology applications.
