From September 7 to 10, 2026, the 2026 International Product Safety Week (IPSW), hosted by the European Commission, was held in Brussels, Belgium. Upon the invitation of the European Commission, the Defective Product Recall Technical Center of the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR DPRC) dispatched a delegation led by Deputy Director Li Yan to the event.
As the biennial flagship event of the European Commission in the field of consumer product safety, IPSW 2026 was themed "Product Safety in Motion." Through thematic sessions and flash talks, the event focused on analyzing the new situations and challenges brought to product safety by technological advancements, changing consumer behaviors, and the growing complexity of law enforcement.
On September 8, the delegation held bilateral exchanges and discussions with Ms. Eva Sinkovic, deputy head of the Rapid Alert System and Product Safety Unit of the Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers (DG JUST) of the European Commission, and Ms. Nathalie Cliquot, Policy Officer and desk officer for China of the Rapid Alert System and Product Safety Unit, which served as a key agenda of this overseas visit. Both sides conducted pragmatic consultations on cooperation regarding technical support for product recalls and quality dispute settlement mechanisms. In particular, they had in-depth exchanges on arrangements for future cooperation between SAMR DPRC and the European Commission’s “Consumer Protection and Non-Food Product Safety” (SPEAC) project.
During the conference, the delegation participated in a series of thematic sessions of IPSW, exchanging views on product safety amid the evolving e-commerce landscape, product safety governance in the digital era, coordination and efficiency improvement of product safety enforcement, safeguarding child consumer product safety in a changing world, and the "Visions for 2035: Delivering Global Product Safety in Practice."
Going forward, SAMR DPRC will continue to deepen pragmatic dialogues with relevant European regulatory authorities, draw on advanced international practices in product safety supervision and defective product recalls, expand multilateral communication channels on product safety, provide technical support for the high-quality development of China's product safety governance system.
