From September 15 to 19, 2026, a delegation from SAMR visited the United States to conduct cooperative exchanges with the United States Food Safety and Inspection Service, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, as well as Ford Motor Company and General Motors on food safety regulation and in‑depth investigation into accidents involving intelligent and connected vehicles.
The delegation held bilateral meetings with FSIS and FDA. Both sides conducted in-depth discussions focusing on food safety regulatory frameworks and legal systems, as well as food safety sampling and monitoring, verification and disposition of non-compliant food products, and technical approaches to food recalls. They exchanged practical experiences regarding the disposition of non-compliant samples and food recalls, and views on advancing efforts to establish a cooperation mechanism for food safety supervision.
The delegation engaged in technical exchanges with Ford and General Motors. Centering on new types of safety defects arising from electrification and intelligentization, risk identification related to driver-assistance systems, defect investigation and disposition, and risk prevention and control measures, the delegation heard about the companies’ practical experience in defect identification and hazard remediation. Both sides explored development directions for regulating motor-vehicle and emissions-related recalls.
This visit represents a pragmatic exchange between China and the United States in the field of product safety regulation. Going forward, SAMR will continue to deepen international exchanges and cooperation, actively promote regular communication with overseas regulatory authorities, steadily enhance product‑safety regulation capabilities, and effectively safeguard consumer safety and interests.
