With a view to implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important remarks on deepening institutional connectivity cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and to boosting interconnection in the field of quality infrastructure between China and South Africa, the Memorandum of Understanding Between the State Administration for Market Regulation of the People’s Republic of China and the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition of the Republic of South Africa on Strengthening Cooperation in Institutional Connectivity of Rules and Standardswas signed. This MOU marks the first cooperation document dedicated to the institutional connectivity of rules and standards signed between China and a Belt and Road partner country. It establishes an institutional connectivity cooperation mechanism between China and South Africa to deepen institutional alignment and foster industrial and supply chain synergy. Both sides will focus on key industries and advance institutional alignment through enhancing coordination of metrology systems, elevating the consistency level of standards, and promoting mutual recognition of conformity assessment results.
