October 14 marks the 57th World Standards Day. The theme for this year is “Shared Vision for a Better World: Spotlight on SDG7 - Affordable and Clean Energy”. The themed event was co-hosted by the State Administration for Market Regulation (National Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China), the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the National Energy Administration. Mr. Deng Zhiyong, Vice Minister of the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and Administrator of the National Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China (SAC), attended and addressed the event. The three international standards organizations — ISO, IEC and ITU — sent video addresses for the event.
As the world’s largest energy producer and consumer, China is among the global leaders in clean energy industries including wind power, photovoltaic power, nuclear energy and ultra-high voltage power transmission. Standardization has provided crucial underpinning for such progress. Up to now, China has approved and released more than 600 national standards, over 1,300 association standards and 345 foreign-language version of national standards covering clean energy sectors such as hydropower, photovoltaics, solar thermal power and hydrogen energy. China has led the development of 174 international standards on energy, accounting for approximately 15 percent of all published international standards in this field. The country also holds secretariats of 10 technical bodies of international standards organizations in areas including solar energy and mechanical energy storage, and undertake the convenors of 34 working groups. It has made positive contributions to strengthening international cooperation on energy standards and advancing the global green transition.
The themed event announced the list of Chinese experts awarded by international standards organizations, released a set of new national clean energy standards, and unveiled the Practices on Transforming Scientific and Technological Achievements into Standards in the New and Blue Book on Standardization of China’s Hydrogen Energy Indu.
