SAMR (SAC) recently released GB/T 47777-2026, Guidelines of risk classification evaluation for intelligent household appliances quality safety, which will come into force on February 1, 2027. The standard specifies the basic principles, evaluation indicators and evaluation methods for the risk classification evaluation of intelligent household appliances, helping eliminate the conventional physical safety hazards and emerging cybersecurity risks, and advancing the standardized and high-quality development of the intelligent household appliances.
In light of the industrial situation that intelligent household appliances have both hardware risks of traditional electrical appliances and new digital risks brought by network connectivity, the standard stipulates three core requirements as follows:
First, it defines four categories of safety risks. The quality and safety risks of intelligent household appliances are classified into four major types: electrical safety, functional safety, information safety, and data and privacy protection. They cover the conventional physical hazards of traditional household appliances such as electric leakage and fire outbreaks, mechanical pinching injuries and temperature control failures and digital risks stemming from intelligent networking features, including network intrusions, system vulnerabilities, user privacy leakage and unauthorized data access by third parties, so as to fully safeguard consumers’ personal safety, property safety and personal information safety.
Second, it enables the comprehensive quantitative evaluation of product risks. A comprehensive evaluation framework is established that takes into account the inherent safety attributes of products, industry regulatory compliance data and consumer experience. It specifies test items for product hardware, control systems, network transmission and other aspects, and incorporates public feedback such as e-commerce reviews and safety-related public opinions, making product safety assessment more objective and holistic.
Third, it unifies the evaluation procedures and risk grading mechanism. A complete and implementable closed-loop evaluation process is formulated, together with multiple evaluation methods applicable to different categories of household appliances. Risks are graded into four levels (A, B, C and D) according to severity. Household appliance manufacturers can conduct preventive inspection for potential product defects, and optimize product design and upgrade firmware for high-risk issues, thereby realizing early identification and timely disposal of safety risks.
